Question: How are registrations selected for attendance?

All trainings are filled on a first come first serve basis.  This includes wait listed registrations.  Those who are on the wait list will be moved into a class based on a first come first serve basis.  If you are unable to attend, you must notify us 1 week prior to the start of class to avoid any "no-show" fees or penalties.

Question:  What Training Region is my agency in?

TRAINING REGIONS MAP

Question: Why are there classes that are only offered to certain training regions and why can’t I register for those classes?

There are several training regions who apply for funding from POST and are only allowed to offer the class to agencies/attendees employed within their training region.  If you register for a class that is identified as "Only Available" to that specific training region, you will be placed on a wait list and notified via email if we can move you into the class.  We have the ability to fill the class with “out of region attendees”, only when there is space available and only when the class is 1 month from commencing.

We suggest that you register, even if you are not in the training region, and you will be placed on the wait list.  One month prior to the class we will evaluate the registration and notify you via email if you are able to attend based on the previously stated guidelines set out by POST.

Question: Does CSOC save seats for agencies?

CSOC will not be “saving” seats for any reason beginning July 1, 2021.  If you are a host agency, meaning that you are hosting a class and need reserved seats, you will need to register all your attendees.  If you are not sure who you will be sending, but want to reserve seats, you can do so by registering “place holder registrations”.  To do this, please use the following example to register “place holder registrations”:
                1. First Name: Agency Name Registration number for your agency.
                                 Example: AdamsCounty1, AdamsCounty2, etc.
                2. Last Name: Agency Name Registration number for your agency.
                                 Example: AdamsCounty1, AdamsCounty2, etc.
                3. Please Enter your PID#: Unknown at this time
                4. Complete all other information based on your agency information with a contact email for updates.

We are always available to assist if you need help registering for classes.

Question: How Many People Can I Send to a Training?

POST guidelines state that any agency can send up to 20% of the total class limit.  This means that if the class is limited to 20 attendees, then your agency can send 4 attendees.

Those same guidelines allow us to add more attendees from your agency, if there are seats available, 1 month prior to the start of the class.  We suggest that you register all of the people that you want to attend, and we will move those who exceed the limit to the wait list.  If we are able to move them into the class, we will notify you via email at the email address you provide on the registration form.  If you need specific people to attend, you will need to contact Andrea Musick-Johnson at [email protected] to give those details.

Question: Can I make substitutions for registered attendees?

You may substitute one attendee for another within your agency.  We need as much notification as you can possibly provide.  You will need to consider all course requirements, to verify that the substitute attendee can complete all the requirements prior to the start of class.  CSOC reserves the right to deny a substitution request based on course requirements and roster restrictions.

Question: What do I do if I need to cancel my registration?

Cancellations are acceptable; however, you need to notify [email protected]  a least 1 week prior to the cancellation so that we can fill the space with someone from the wait list.  There are always circumstances that will not make this possible due to the nature of the job, but we request that you notify us regardless of when you need to cancel.  Failure to notify us may result in denial of future training opportunities for you and/or your agency.

NOTICE:  WE HAVE HAD A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF “NO-SHOW” or “LAST- MINUTE CANCELLATION” INSTANCES WHICH CAUSE SIGNIFICANT ISSUES.  MANY AGENCIES BENEFIT FROM THE GRANT FUNDED TRAINING AND ARE NOT ABLE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT WHEN WE ARE NOT ABLE TO FILL THE SEATS DUE TO "NO-SHOWS" AND "LAST-MINUTE CANCELLATIONS".  IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND, PLEASE NOTIFY US ASAP SO THAT WE CAN FILL THOSE VACANCIES AND TO ELIMINATE HAVING TO DENY YOU AND/OR YOUR AGENCY FUTURE TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES.

Question:  How do I know if I am POST Certified, Sworn, or a Civilian Employee?

When you were hired by your agency, you would have been identified as follows:

POST Certified Employee – This means that you completed a POST Law Enforcement Training Academy and are considered “certified”.  This makes you eligible to attend all POST Grant Funded classes for free.  You will be REQUIRED to provide your POST ID Number (PID) to attend.  This allows us to be reimbursed by POST for the cost of your training.

Where do I get a PID?  Follow this link and look under the General Section for details.

Sworn Employees – This means that your sheriff swore you in at the start of your employment, however you are not certified (see above).  This makes you eligible to attend all POST Grant Funded classes for free, if offered.

Civilian Employees – This means that you are considered a civilian employee of your agency.  You are neither Certified nor Sworn.  You can attend POST Grant Funded classes if there is room after all Certified and Sworn personnel have registered.  You cannot attend if the class is full.  Per POST rules, we are allowed to open registration for civilian attendees 1 month prior to the start of the class.  We suggest that you register at any time and we will place you on a wait list until we can move you into the class.  Once we can move you into the class, we will notify you at the email you provide in your registration.

You will be asked a question in the registration form pertaining to your employee Certified/Sworn/Civilian Status.  Please be sure to answer this question when registering as you may be moved to the wait list if your status is unknown.
